Who We AreOUR STAFF

The camper/counselor ratio at Glen Bernard is 3:1. Staff members are 18 years and older and most are prior campers and Assistant Counsellors (ACs). ACs earn a Grade 12 Ontario High School credit (PLF4M) through the successful completion of their training program. Staff members are certified in Bronze Cross and Standard First Aid, and we have a physician on site at all times. Staff development at GBC is a key program and one that assures a high standard of leadership, integrity and program continuity.

Assistant Counsellor program - The ACs

Most of our Assistant Counsellor positions are filled by past campers who have been in the Pacer leadership program the previous summer. Pacers are entering grade 11, or equivalent outside Ontario, and they have leadership opportunities throughout that summer in which they receive feedback and develop familiarity with the world of being a camp leader.

The Assistant Counsellors are considered staff members and are at camp for the full summer. A modest honorarium is provided. These beginner staff members have the option to include a grade 12 credit, Recreation and Fitness Leadership (PLF4M) as a part of the program in which they are involved over nine weeks.
